About 5C Cultural Center and the Café

5C Cultural Center is the inspiration of five lower east side residents. Three of us remain and we have lived in this neighborhood for more than twenty-five years. With firm roots as homesteaders, gardeners, artists and educators, we survived the turbulent times of alphabet city. So, we share a belief in retaining the best historic/cultural traditions of our neighborhood while continuing to foster a sense of community in this diverse community.

From the very beginning in 1995, our mission was to provide a
friendly and comfortable environment for community involvement in the performing arts, education and social activism. To that end, we have sponsored or presented over 1500 events featuring an eclectic range of musicians, poets, visual artist and social activists. Moreover, we have provided tutoring for hundred of students and adults in Mathematics, writing, Spanish and English as well as given affordable music lessons in piano, theory and voice.

In the spring of 2001, we added 5C Café offering a quality yet affordable, vegetarian menu. We now welcome two cutting edge chefs, MARC SIEGAL and VANESSA CABRERA who have created the menu that includes the best in raw and cooked dishes using fresh, unprocessed, organic ingredients. Thank you so much for your continued support.
